Brooke Moore, VMD, Regional Consulting Veterinarian, Elanco Animal Health
Dr. Brooke Moore obtained her BA from Franklin and Marshall College in 2001.  She then attended and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary school in 2005.   She spent six years in small animal clinical practice before starting an industry career with Novartis Animal Health in 2011.  She is now a regional consulting veterinarian with Elanco Animal Health. She has a special interest in preventative medicine and enjoys educating veterinary professionals about new trends in veterinary medicine.   She has received advanced training in parasitology, immunology, pain management and customer service principles.
Dr. Moore resides in beautiful Bucks County Pennsylvania with her husband, three children and dog.   She enjoys running, hiking and spending time with her amazing family.

John Rossi, VMD, Scientific Services Veterinarian, Royal Canin

Dr. John Rossi is a Scientific Services Veterinarian with Royal Canin and a 2005 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to joining Royal Canin in 2018, he spent a number of years in small-animal general practice, followed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and most recently, the Drexel University School of Public Health. In addition to his veterinary degree, Dr. Rossi has also completed a master’s degree in bioethics as well as two postdoctoral fellowships in public health science and ethics.

 

Presentation
Nutritional Approaches to Managing Atopic and Adverse Food Reaction Patients

This presentation will provide an overview of the role that nutrition plays in the diagnosis and ongoing management of atopy and adverse food reaction (AFR). We will review the etiology and epidemiology of canine and feline dermatology cases; the diagnosis of and differentiation between adverse food reaction and atopy; how to properly conduct a food elimination/challenge trial; and nutritional solutions to AFR and atopy. Subsidiary topics for discussion include the role of skin barrier dysfunction in atopy and the use of nutrition to fortify the skin barrier; the use of Omega-3 fatty acids; and a comparison of hydrolyzed and novel protein diets for the diagnosis and management of AFR.
