Animal Hero Award: Service/Working

The Animal Hero Award: Service/Working is presented to animals that have demonstrated extraordinary deeds as a private or public service/working animals

The following must be included with each nomination:
1. A completed application/nomination form with examples of how the animal has proven to be deserving of the award by providing assistance to those in need
2. A letter of support from the animal’s veterinarian on practice letterhead
3. Any of the following: additional letters of support, photographs, videos, newspaper articles, or other evidence of the good work of the animal

A Delaware connection (for the owner and/or veterinarian) is required.

Submission of nomination implies release of photographs/videos and information for the purposes of publicity.  Please do not send originals as they will not be returned.


Award recipients will be notified by email in mid-October.  Awards will be presented during the DVMA Winter Conference luncheon on November 8, 12:00-1:30 pm at Bally’s Dover Casino & Resort in Dover, Delaware.

2021 Award Recipient

The 2021 Animal Hero Award for Service was presented to Cash in recognition of his dedication and loyalty as a service dog for his owner and friend, Elizabeth Short, a United States Air Force veteran for whom he provides critical assistance during medical events and everyday needs.
